Ranchers across the country are facing tremendous difficulties. In the last 30 years, the number of beef cattle operations in the U.S. has declined from 1.3 million to 740,000, and the number of hog operations has dropped from 660,000 to 67,000. This is because the concentrated packing industry gives large companies an unfair advantage of producers. The GIPSA rule would level the playing field and allow producers to receive a fair price for the product. Here are the stories of some young ranchers and the difficulties they face.
