Jerry Day - 2009 MOWAA American Volunteer Award nominee

Meet Jerry Day, Volunteer Coordinator for an outer route in Ware Place/Cedar Shoals South Carolina for Meals on Wheels of Greenville. Jerry has recruited through Washington Baptist Church, enough volunteers to deliver meals from 2 days per week (Monday & Wednesday) to 5 days per week. He is always willing to fill in when we need a substitute for either of these routes. As a matter of fact, Jerry recently took over helping on Thursday with half of Rt. 28B.

There are currently 28 clients on the 2 routes. Jerry cares deeply for each one of them and does whatever it takes to make sure all are cared for. He has taken upon himself to talk to the members of the church to get help for these clients; paying their bills, mowing lawns, repairing, in-home care, etc.




With a value of $20.25 an hour for volunteers, last year Jerry probably contributed .2-4 hours per week if you count recruitment, delivering, repairing, etc. totaling 208 hours last year and $4,212.
