Here is a little weather report. Hopefully all of you are staying cool and comfortable in the face of this oppressive heatwave. Also...Youtube user lmull3 sent me this 101-disc Pioneer PD-F908 CD changer. It's in pretty good shape and I'm sure to find a good place to use it in one of my stereo systems.

Interestingly, although Pioneer bothered to put a nice fourteen-segment vacuum fluorescent display in place, they don't use it to anywhere near full capability. Two of the fourteen segment characters aren't even hooked up (on my 25 disc models that don't have CD Text support, which use the exact same display). There's a neat question mark character that goes unused (even in the CD text capable models, which do not display any punctuation, although the whole display is enabled there). You might also notice that letters are formed to avoid using the parts unique to the 14-segment area of each character...dISC instead of "Disc" is displayed.

  • The package police are racing down the stairs to arrest you!

  • @walshmonster2005 They're far too late by now. I've already gotten away!

  • Bill, does the ac in the volvo work?

  • @GS7093 It's supposed to, but I don't think my dad has ever tried it. His reasoning is beyond me. I'd have the air conditioner cranking in any car I was driving!

  • It's been well over 100° for awhile here. The local TV stations are even keeping track of how many days this summer we've had with temperatures over 100° which is at least 40 consecutive days. Another kick in the butt is the 1.8 inches of rain year to date. We all said goodbye to grass mowing and the farmers said goodbye to crops long ago.

  • @CenTexVideo Wow. I hope you're staying cool down there...how well does the A/C keep up in your laundromat (if you do not mind my asking)?

The heat here eased up to about 92 today. It felt much cooler than a few piddly degrees should have. I know our crops here need water and my grass isn't really growing either.

  • I also like thoroughly looking at theese displays to see all the characters and always wonder weather all of them light on and if not then why. =)

I hope others do that too. =)

    Thank for all the videos!

  • Our car said 115 in dallas TX

  • @uxwbill Nah, I don't mind you asking.

We have four units here. Three of them are 2 ton window units and the roof unit I believe is 3 tons. All do a good job at 80° settings. The compressors do turn off once in a while. The electricity rates here are legal robbery, so we don't crank up the cool too much. The building is 60 years old, so it's drafty. With the wind being so bad here, the cool air doesn't stick around long. LOL!

You and your family stay cool. 92° is still pretty warm.

  • @moldymac It's very clean, and it has definitely found a good home here. Most all of the Sony changers I've seen do have the CD Text feature in place. I have a 400-disc model that also has the keyboard port. It came with a promotional offer for a Sony 'board, but I never took them up on it. I have a Model M space saver 'board plugged in. Sure beats putting in letters through the remote!

  • That changer is in great shape! I still have kicking around a Sony 200 disc DVD changer. I don't recall if it supports CD text or not, but it does have a PS/2 port on the front of the unit to program disc titles with a standard keyboard.
