This is how I land my kite when being out alone. The camera looks in the direction the wind is blowing to.
1. Start to fly the kite slowly down at the edge of the window as if there was a helping person.
2. When the kite is about 2 meters above the ground, quickly steer it down by fully tilting the bar.
3. As the kite hits the ground fronttube first, pull the upper steering line and quickly pull in some meters, so that the kite turns with the front to the wind as you would position it manually.
4. Unclip from your bar, quickly walk to the kite, keeping the safty line running through your hand, in case the kite should be blown from it's position, you can safly hold it there.
5. Secure the kite.
ATTENTION: Always be prepared that this might not work. It happens easily that the kite lands in a position that is not stable. Then you just relaunch the kite as you would on water, or if it is already on it's way into the power zone and not quite well under your controll IMMEDIATELY make use of your safty system, as a kite out of control in the powerzone can be extremely dangerous.
I feel safe giving this landing advice, as the kite manufactors tell to self land a kite just by using the safty system. So nothing wrong trying a controlled landing and make use of the safty system if it fails.
But still be extremely careful. Already professional kiteboarders died performing simple everyday maneuvers, so there is always a risk of fatality no matter what.
