For Harriett, my girl on fire.

Femme Fatale as sung by Loud Reed at The Family Dog, San Francisco, November 1969.

Taken from the Quine Tapes this also includes a small introduction to the song from Lou himself, a few words as to the history of the song and the woman behind it all.

The video is several minutes from the Warhol film "Poor Little Rich Girl" starring our troubled girl on fire herself. Edie Sedgwick. It's just something to keep your eyes busy. Nothing special.

  • are you sure this is'nt john cale

  • As a fellow Welshman I can say the mumbling would make you think it were but nah, there aint no accent there. Cale has a strong un.

Also Cale wasn't at the gig, Sterling, Lou, Maureen and Doug were present.

  • Fabulous!!! Love hearing Lou Reed actually say the song was written about Edie. Thank You!

  • I love his rendition over Nicos. My father would kill me if heard me say that, he loves her. I find it puts more meaning to the lyrics with Lou at the helm.

Also don't thank me thank Lou. I just wanted to share this as I couldn't believe nobody had put it up here already.

Thanks for finding the gem and listening.

  • @BalCleric Then please check out Lou's live version from 2006 here on youtube. Amazing stuff (but don't let your father hear, as he pokes some fun at Nico in the introduction).

  • @cbben4124 Ha, love it. Thank's for the tip and linked it right away to my father. I love winding him up about Nico.

  • Cool video

  • Thanks for sharing. I think I still like the original version better (Nico's vocals are just so haunting), but it's pretty cool to hear Lou sing it. I also like the version by Blondie, recorded live at CBGB's circa 1975. You can find it here on YouTube by searching "Blondie Femme Fatale".

  • Truly the way it was meant to be played.

  • i love nico singing the song but to hear lou sing it is so cool, he's the best

  • @jazzzbaby He did that a lot. I have always though it is NOT a condemnation of Edie, but in fact a love song, a memory of a love that was still smoldering. And one of the sweetest love songs ever written. Lou knows what he is doing... This still is a major masterpiece. It is clear to me that she was a very special girl and that a lot of people loved her intensely.

  • thanks so much for this.

    perfect.

    happy birthday, edie.

  • @M4000D Yes, you're right. It's so tragic what happened to Edie. Se wasn't crazy, she was just a victim of her circumstances. She never hurt anybody, she was the sweetest girl.

  • beautiful version but i love Nico ♥

  • Once his joking is over Lou really does give a devastating performance of the song.
