  • 10:02 That reminds me of one of my favourite poems of all time by Jacob Israel de Haan. Loosely translated from Dutch:

O, let us find consolation in Time,

Let us no longer resist Eternity,

Enjoy your evening rest, my friend,

Is life not beautiful for it fades away?

  • omg, beautifully put 1:05

  • @EducatedRebellion101

    You missed one

  • by Imagine did he mean Aperfect Circle's Imagine? O,O

  • Dammit those are some awesome song titles that I was thinking of using myself. Damn you Barker!

  • I am well aware of the history of "Simple Gifts." I didn't know about the other performances, though. Turns out he was right. Ooops.

  • "Air and Simple Gifts" was an arrangement by John Williams for the inauguration, but he did not write it. He took the tune from Aaron Copland's "Appalachian Spring", which he arranged from the original "Simple Gifts", composed by Elder Joseph Brackett, a Shaker song, in 1848.

Aaron Copland's "Lincoln Portrait" and "Fanfare for the Common Man" was performed by the Armed Services Orchestra for the inaugural ceremonies, with Tom Hanks doing the speaking part for Lincoln Park.

  • Ooops. Aaron Copeland didn't write the music from the inauguration, that was an arrangement of "Simple Gifts" by John Williams.
