Here are the Hot Five Jazzmakers vintage June 18 1999 again -- all six of them! Janet Shaw displays her old heavyweight Buscher baritone sax (it weighs a ton!) to advantage and Brian Towers leads on trombone The band recorded this tune on CD also, in March 2000 with the same line-up. The album is called "Did You Mean It?" and is still available. The CD audio version has a vocal from Colin Bray -- an added bonus!

The tune was written in 1931 by Rich/De Sylvia/ Brown & Henderson and the lyrics came from Charles O'Flynn and Jack Meskill . Don't ask me why it took six writers to come up with this simple little piece!

Gary Scriven played drums & washboard with the H5JM for 7 years from 1995-2002. Gary is the son of Graham, who plays drums on other H5JM video clips. Reide Kaiser became the band's regular pianist for 4 years from October 1998 and appears on two of the band's CD's. Colin Bray played string bass from 1990-2003. Rainer Hunck played both bass and banjo with the group. On bass from 1988-90 and banjo from 1990-2004. This cut was made to help promote the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival and provide some camera and recording practice (a'hem!) for technicians at a local community TV station.

  • Excatly

    Ending tune

  • I have a vintage recording with male vocal of this tune which from time to time in difficult/rediculous situations comes to mind! Isnt it grand. I do like the tight rhythm and yes, the use of sepia as the video color. Well done. R
