Steam engines are awesome. Gas and Diesl engines are faster but you cant beat the class and style of a steam engine.

@decoysk - err - no!, That is because the boat is following them. It is serving as an umpires launch and was designed for that very purpose, to give minimal wash at the speed necessary to keep up with an VIII at race pace!
as it is a race, the next pair of boats do not start until the wash has subsided anyway.

not that fast as I doubt a double scull does more than about 10 or 12 kts although i expect at the start Consuta was going faster to catch them up - I think she has done 22 knots if I recall? may be the wide angle lens makes it look faster?
