  • total awesome demolition. what a great operator too.  great equipment tearing the old place down.

  • While the city may mercilessly destroy their history now, someday they will realize it wasn't worth it. As drakkar91 said, the Metropolitan was the victim of city corruption. Maybe if the mayor in the 1990s hadn't been spending all his time dealing cocaine, and if the city government had been held together viably, these buildings would have gotten the attention they deserve.

  • The demolition, while a result of the building no longer being structurally sound, IS the victim of corruption via city and state government inaction - as well as actions that prohibited the building from being used for housing because of "red tape". Had the city and state leaders not been in the game just for money, the hotel would have stood a chance at rehabilitation. It was beyond repair in 2008 - but had a chance in 1988, maybe even 1998.

  • So sad! Another victim of NJ corruption it seems...
