I suggest you pick up World War Z by Max Brooks. My wife got it for my birthday and I kind of had the same feelings towards it. But, it fucking owned me. Good read.

Lol, when my nephew got this book I saw Max Brooks name and thought, "Oh great it's Mel Brooks' son.. This book has to a joke lol." Turns out it obviously is a joke but it's very well-written. I was so impressed and interested that I didn't put it down until page 70 something. I then finished the very next day. Excellent book!

It's well worth the wait. Why don't you get World War Z as well also by Max Brooks, which is the greatest pieces of literature ever written.
