Someone posted on one of my recent videos, "these days, a plane without winglets is like a pencil without a rubber on the end." While that's not quite true, it certainly seems to be becoming the case.

  • i think that thomsonfly have a heavy slow take off because when they take off it suppose to be like fast and fly off quicker no offence

  • Sianyb. Winglets are there to stop wind-spill vortices. A wing- due to it`s shape, has lift by creating a lower air pressure above the wing and a higher air pressure below it.As you get to the thinner,narrower end of the wing the air starts to spin around in a circle called a vortice. This vortice creates no lift so the end of the wings are useless. Winglets stop this vortice effect so the entire wing creates lift for the aircraft. This is more efficient and saves on fuel also. Hope that helps.
