Jacob "Kujo" Lyons has been a progressive voice and an iconoclast in the break-dance community for 15 years, and is a sought-after teacher and judge of b-boy/break-dance competitions worldwide. Originally a self-taught street dancer, Kujo began studying modern, ballet, choreography, and biomechanics late in his career. The fusion of these elements with break-dancing resulted in the idea to form Lux Aeterna - "eternal light" in Latin.

Lux Aeterna's raison d'etre is two-fold: first, an attempt to expand on the idea that "to dance ballet is to use oneself to express something beyond oneself." Any style of dance may be utilized to convey the transcendent or sublime, provided the intention and attention to technique are appropriate. Second, as there are no true boundaries in art, there is no reason that break-dancing might not be compatible with ballet, or with with any other style. Movement is movement.

"Navaras" is Kujo's first work of choreography, conceived in April 2006 and premiered in August 2006.

  • Tumbleweed!!!

Nice to see bboyin applied to other types of music

  • Haha, how'd you know the name of that move?

  • Kujo man amazing video...I've been hearing about you for years and itz dope to see that you've been getting more into performance lately. Great to see Bboys who are open minded...it lets you know that there is someone in the world like me. What other work are you doing now? Do you teach in L.A.?

  • Thanks man. It took a long time to even garner the courage to do things like this. I'm doing many similar things like this - I've choreographed a 22-minute show based on this piece, and we're performing our stuff fairly often in and around LA. I also teach at the Edge in Hollywood every Sunday. Let me know if you're interested. Thanks!

  • Wow, I'm not even interested in dance, always thought it looked like a bunch of pansies jumping around in spandex.

But man, that was sweet. Just downright awesome. I would pay to go watch something like that over a movie.

Awesome music too...got the blood going. Where is it from? Is it from a soundtrack?

  • Thanks! Among other things, we're trying to make an "anti-pansy" form of Ballet here. ;) The music is "Navaras" (or "Navras") by Juno Reactor, on The Matrix: Revolutions" soundtrack.

  • @bratboi navara

  • yea

  • Yea man its a good start, hoever the styles are still to seperate. I'm doing the same thing but with modern its a lot easier I feel because its much more flowy and easier to meld the styles. There were def sme very beautiful moments in here I think youre on the right right track, good use of inventive movement. too much performance for the audience it still looks like trick dancing. much respect
