Stuart is more intelligent than Mike, more personable and better looking. Gloria should have married him instead of the meathead.

The reason these characters are so memorable and resonate so deeply with viewers—including people like me, who hadn't even been born yet when the show was airing—is not primarily because they unashamedly gave voice to the actual attitudes & perspectives of the time. I think it's really because they were real human beings, with real human flaws. I can't think of anything NEARLY this good on today's network TV, which, admittedly, I don't watch. But give people quality, & they will watch.

On the surface, Archie and and Meathead are polar opposites: they embody a clash of generations, etc. But on a fundamental level, they're the SAME. Both of them come from blue collar backgrounds. Both aspire to be a part of something bigger & more important than themselves—both are seduced by the American dream, which brings out the best and the worst in them. Both are constantly trying to project themselves as embodying the things that they aspire to—things that they don't fully understand.

Not interesting. One, she probably didn't expect her husband to look down on her for having only a high school diploma. Two, Gloria also feels a bit inferior because she didn't go to college. But Mike is an ass.. proof that a diploma is just a piece of paper.

Mike's comment that with his friend there would be someone in the house with some intellect is an insult to Archie, Edith and Gloria.
Interesting that Gloria did not pick up on the insult when it was made.
