    Advice from the down and out can come in handy if you wish to avoid their path. The lyrics stated that there was an exchange of advice for some whiskey and a cigarette, not that such things were beyond the means of the adviser. In fact, it was stated that the advice seeker was "out of aces", not the adviser. In effect, he exchanged an intangible service of consultation for a tangible fee of whiskey and cigarettes. That is the follow-on lesson that he took to the grave with him I suppose.
