Henna performing at Bellydance Uncorked. Henna has been studying bellydance since 2002. A Portland-native, she spent four years in Tokyo, Japan teaching and performing bellydance before returning to Portland last year. With a solid background in American cabaret and Egyptian styles of bellydance, it was in Tokyo that she began experimenting with fusion styles of dance. She has a passion for Middle Eastern music and often refers to bellydance as the "love of her life." A member of the tribal fusion troupe, Nagamani, Henna believes in the evolution of bellydance as a modern dance form as well as an ancient, celebratory ritual.
