An informative chapter from the DVD "All About Law School." This is the first ever documentary feature film made about the law school experience. It is entertaining to watch while teaching practical lessons about the first year process. The film features real life testimonials from law students across first tier, second tier, third tier and fourth tier law schools.

The DVD covers topics like undergraduate major, racehorse exams, reading case law, exam preparation, corporate job markets, outlines, checklists, law professors, law school competition and grades, exam strategies, gunners, typing in class, taking time off, picking a law school, issuespotter exams, the socratic method, IRAC analysis, The mental and social life aspects of studying law and much more. Its a funny, informative and practical look at the incredible world of law school

This particular chapter is all about the Socratic Method and how certain law school professors use it to "hide the ball" and intimidate their students. Is it ultimately a well crafted learning tool? You be the judge. Check out this clip and don't forget to comment on your experience with gunners in the law school class room! • I read One-L, Law School Confidential, Law School Insider and the like. Although those are all decent products, we've packed this DVD with the most practical strategies and test taking tips that will help you rise above the law school curve. Please visit "AllAboutLawSchool(dot)com" and browse the chapters of this DVD. Moreover, you can read our testimonials and decide for yourself whether this is a good buy. I believe there is nothing better on the market.

  • these people scare 1L's more than they help. it's not that bad, just read the cases, try to understand what's going on, and if you've done that much and you're still stumped by the professor's questions, chances are, 99% of the class doesn't know the answer either. relax. it's not the end of the world

  • umm yea...aristotle came after socrates so...

Socrates never claimed to come up with his own stuff he used a compilation of other peoples thoughts and brought them together to form his own views

  • Socratic really teaches nothing. It forces you to read - that is it. I felt it detracted from all the important material.

  • My undergrad is sort of like this but we are encourage to ask questions and ask , the worst thing is that you get it wrong and embarrass , most of the time nobody knows the answer.

But thats why you are the student and they are the professor , If you knew it ,you will not be sitting in the desk.

  • you ARE going to LOSE! haha but this class setting sounds exciting. going to undergrad where the professor had no interaction with students was miserable. we were lucky if we got to ask 3 questions per class. having to stay on your toes and being put on the spot is scary, yes. but you will come out the situation either humbled and aware of what you need to do/know to succeed on the material presented, or you will feel a boost of confidence from getting even part of the answer correct.

  • passing does NOT entail a "degree of shame" ... puh-leez!

  • has anyone ever just been like

"yeah...well FUCK YOU!" and walked out? lol

    jk

  • Question: HOW is this supposed to make someone want to go to law school?

  • "Socrates took a mental rough-and-tumble dialectic technique already in use by Aristotle and Zeno and spun it into his own "Socratic Method."

Aristotle was born about 15 years after Socrates had died. Right with Zeno though! The inventor of the dialectic, according to Aristotle.

  • Students are also still encouraged to go into math and science even tho the number of people entering the job market w/ math and science degrees has dwarfed the number of new math science jobs available for many years. The increased supply and competition for those jobs forces wages down. Eventually wages might get low enough that the companies will stop outsourcing, and be able to pay domestic workers what they pay the foreigners.

  • @JPArmone the problems with our economy have more to do with supply and demand then with "frenzy" my "attitude" causes. Increase the supply of lawyers, or any other type of worker, and decrease the demand for those workers. Encouraging more people to go to law school when the market is already flooded with lawyers is irresponsible.

  • @sebwingfield If everyone took the piss-poor attitude you seem to possess, then everything would grind to a halt. Yet many of my classmates have legal jobs lined up, and few if any regret their decision to attend law school. Pessimists and the frenzy they promote is what's holding back this economy.
