Since you look much younger (very elegant, indeed), I'll asume this was filmed many years ago, and perhaps David Schneider's "Critique of Kinship" had not been published yet. I find it to be a most intriguing book. Schneider believes most non-Western kinship systems have absolutely nothing to do with biology. Only Westerners link biology and kinship, and ethnocentrically project it to other cultures (CONTINUE BELOW)
Evans-Pritchard's documentation of woman-woman marriage among the Nuer is a powerful reminder that not all societies are utterly opposed to gay marriage. I agree perhaps Western Civilization and its kinship system is not suited for gay marriage, but certainly gay marriage is not universally rejected, as some Conservatives would have us think
Furthermore, we should not translate those kinship terms as "father" and "son", because that already implies a biological basis that is inexistent.
