  • Thanks for the post--what a wonderful gospel blast from the past. I remember as a kid growing up in L.A., Gertrude and her Mom lived in L.A. and when they would come home from touring all over Europe and the U.S., Clara would visit some of the local churches. The ministers would always ask her to do a solo, she would throw down her mink, march on down to the pulpit and just tear the church down. Always loved her spirit, she was not to BIG to sing and shout with the locals!
