Here's Compiz Fusion on my 512MB RAM 4G Eee PC, with Ubuntu 7.10 installed on a Transcend 4GB SDHC card. Effects are pretty smooth, but it could be better with more RAM installed (1GB/2GB). Unlike other videos, this one showcases more plugins, such as Dodge, Group/Tab Windows, Shift Switcher and Fire Paint, besides the more common ones such as Cube, Expo and Scale.

  • Dang I want one of these things now! Almost pocket-size, but still plenty of processing power.

  • Yep, you most definitely want one :). It gives decent specs for its price.

  • OMG! i can't believe compiz could run so smoothly on a device so tiny!

  • do what i did and get one on ebay. due to people not really knowing what it was, there was a ridiculous return rate and you can find them anywhere on ebay for really cheap. i bought a model twice as powerful as the one that celyst has for $190, free shipping

  • i liked this video :)

    anyone want to chat cY

  • Precompiled kernels aren't as fun :-P

  • I believe on Eeeuser there is a precompiled kernel for Xandros that recognises 2GB of RAM.

  • You can probably get Xandros to recognize the full 2 GB by recompiling your kernel with "high memory support"

  • I cannot thank you enough!! You fill me with so much confidence! This video proves to me that when I finally get around to doing something, it'll look good!! xD

I currently own the EEE 701 (4GB) and two 4GB SDHC cards. I plan to partition one so that 2.5/3GB is given over to Ubuntu 8.10 which I will then boot off. I put a 2GB ram chip in a while ago, but Xandros only uses 1GB, hopefully Ubuntu will use the 2GB, making everything better!

How did you install Ubuntu onto your SDHC card?

  • Sorry, the Eee PC is long gone =). IMO there are much better choices right now.
