the best\only way to take seals is before they can swim away.the pop. continues to grow and can easly become a enviromental hazard.animal by-products are everywhere it's part of the human condition.200,000 seals don't go far to feed 500,000 NFLDers.thanks

Well, when vegetarians/vegans were polled by Time/CNN in 2002 even they didn't concur in regards to calling the slaughter of animals murder. Only 42% called it murder and only 10% of these people claimed they were primarily vegetarian/vegan because of animal rights.

What? Lots of people care about other animals besides seals. This is the first presentation i did about seals, the rest are all about farmed animals. Crabs aren't mass slaughtered like seals are - and animal rights activist such as myself do advocate not harming or keeping crabs. This is simply a presentation about seals, I did it because of the proposed EU ban. Look at my other presentations for more info on why people shouldn't hurt crabs or seals or any other animal.
Thanks =P

If the seals weren't cute, no one would care. When was the last time anyone complained about the treatment crabs receive?
The EFSA report that was commissioned by the European Union and published in December 2007 determined that approx 95% of the seals hunted in Canada were inbetween the ages of 1 to 3.5 months.
Furthermore, it is illegal to hunt seals that are younger than 14 days in Canada.

Even though i got the information wrong, it is irrevelant, and my point remains.
My point was that the sealers do not care about the seals, and they only care about the pelts, and as you pointed out the pelts are the best between 1 to 3.5 months, which is when the seals are slaughtered.
And the rule that you can't kill seals younger then 14 days is impossible to regulate and totally arbitrary. And againm the pelts are probably not good at that young age, so there would be no way to tell.

I guess nobody told you that harp seals start loosing their white coats at less than two weeks and that they're fully gray by a month.
This means that illegal pelts are easy to spot because they're all white. But then there isn't any demand for that fur, seeing that the majority of seals hunted are actually more than a month old.

Umm thats great,
You ignored my other comments.
I don't care when harp seals lose thier coats at what time. I care when the seal who is 1-3 monthts old gets hit in the head with a pik axe, for some stupid arbitary reason.
Does it make it better for me to kill a human who is 3 months old, or a human that is 14 days old? Its irrevelant, I'm still killing which is wrong.
Comment with revelacny please =P

I did respond to your comment. There is little demand for white coat pelts and the policing is there. It is only the activists that are assuming that white coats are part of the commercial hunt.
Most harp seals are actually shot in Canada and it isn't only about pelts. People eat seal in Newfoundland/Labrador and vegetarian diets are not viable in the remote communities of that province. They'd need to import everything a great expense.
Seal oil contains Omega 3s not found in flax.

Your missing my point. Regardless of what color pelts or if the seals are younger then 3 months doesn't matter. Your still killing the seal!
I realize that people need to eat seal meat and other animal products in remote parts of the province. However, the amount of people living in these parts of the province are so small, and they hunt they do not commerically hunt the seals. Over 97% of the seal hunt is commericial.
And the vegetarian argument is a social political one, not one of morals
