On the Sunny Side of the Street Ellington 1966

Duke Ellington Octet in Italy in 1966.
On the Sunny Side of th Street has been recorded many times and always as a showpiece for alto saxophonist Johnny Hodges. The other members know the back up arrangement so well that no music stands with the music was needed

  • The Rabbit was great, but there was no-one could touch The Bull - work that one out ;)

  • There is nothing like that Johnny Hodges sound.

  • Love the way that Duke highlighted his great musicians. Some so-called business managers of today could learn that lesson from Duke.

  • @barbary10

You got that right brother! Johnny Hodges, there has never been one better.

  • Smooth as silk, by far the best Sax player, no one can reproduce his sound.

My favorite since almost 50 years!~

  • Who would say that he was 60 at the time of this recording... and had only 4 more years to live? I wouldn't...

  • Hodges is by far my favorite sax player

  • put a smile on my face :)
