In April 2010, Queensland Rail ran a special return commuter service, stopping at all stations between Ipswich and Shorncliffe, using steam locomotive BB18 ¼ 1089 over 3 seperate days.

This was the first time in 42 years that a steam locomotive operated a regular City Train service on the Brisbane Suburban Network, with the last steam passenger service taking place in September 1968.

The special services were being run as a driver training school to train up Electric Train drivers to become the next generation of steam train drivers.
