These islands are in the carribean right below the bahamas and have nothing to do with turkey other then the name. It comes from the turks head cactus which is named that because it looks like it has fez on the top like a turkish hat. similar name, nothing really in common and they most definately are not the Tuco-caicos islands, thats just made up bullshit

u r soooo wrong (A true Turks and Caicos Islander replying to u). It is The TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS not turco-caicos. N another thing, Grand Turk is not Turkish, the country is not turkish at all. We got the name Turks and Caicos Islands from the Turks Head Cactus. Get ur facts str8 b4 posting ur comments boo. Peace Out...TCI

In the 17 century when ottoman Turks were so powerful. People in island, start calling them self Turks to protect from pride....Then some other s which Britons come up idea .....and made up name Coming from ottoman Fez which is total misconception
