Oh okay. :) Thanks for clearing that up. I just used Google translation on your info and it failed to translate anything for I Monstri, I should have been more thorough. Sorry for the mix up!
Anyway, Mancini did pay homage to Rota a few times in his career, so I was looking for some evidence that Rota influenced him.

Nino Rota brought jazz back with him, especially Gershwin, when he returned to Italy after studying in Philadelphia. He incorporated jazz in his music at the very latest in 1946, but probably sooner. Much of his scores for Fellini were jazz.
The only listing I can get for Vita da Cani is the film from 1950 directed by Monicelli with a score by Rota. Even if this wasn't that film, I can't even find another on Google.

whaooo i am sorry you right....I check also ...and I admit my mistake ....but honesty I gett difficulties too find in Nino Rota ..jazz roots....
But one things you make mistake the movie you saw is not the vita da cani make by Monicelli with Alberto Sordi and not Vittorio Gassman...the movie you saw is a sketch...of a movie make by Dino risi (who I met) call "I monstri".....very funny movie...is a pleasure to speak with someone who now very well the movie of my country

Sounds like Nino Rota influenced some of Mancini scores with this. I had never heard this before. Nice.
