Shawns dad called VFX brainwashed but that means being the victim of coercive techniques. Shawn wasnt tricked and lured into a cult. We all know that Shawn garnered all his dogma from the internet. He doesnt even know Hovind personally. There was no intense solicitation and promise of escape from a disadvantaged life. Shawn had the best that money could buy, yet plunged himself into his megalomaniacal fantasy of moral and intellectual grandeur. It's very hard to see him as a victim.

Meh, even if she was 17-yo, it's only the backward-ass teachings of the church that have ingrained the idea into the culture that sex is generally shameful and it's especially wrong for anyone under the age of 30 and unmarried to have sex. Whether you're Christian or not, if you were born before the 90s, you've grown up on Christians "virtues". But the reality is, the human race was born to 17-yo girls; not the 30-40-yo women like today. Girls are sexually mature before 17.
