About Artist:

Roderick Julian Modell (cv313, DeepChord, Echospace, Waveform Transmission)

Rod Modell is a sound designer / electronic music producer from the Detroit area. He began producing music in the mid-80's using analog synthesizers and drum machines. To date (July 2007), Modell has about 60 releases to his credit. Rod's work was focused on electro-acoustic experimentation in the early years, making musique concrete compositions with a 4-track cassette machine and field recordings, then branching into industrial soundscape work. More recent recordings utilize more structure and beats, but still retain the atmospherics that Modell is known for. Mood is of paramount importance in a Rod Modell recording (often created with field recordings). Sadly, this element seems to be lost in much of the "clicks & cuts" DSP music of today. One of Modell's favorite pastimes is making middle-of-the-night recordings with his portable DAT machine and dummy-head microphone. In the mid-90's, Modell started DeepChord Records (with Mike Schommer) in Detroit, as an outlet for his music. Deepchord has experienced tremendous popularity (some say cult status) within the dub techno world. Formed in the mid-90's, DC was one of the original perveyors of this sound. Hordes of imitators came in the following years after DC, but DC's status as one of the originators is firmly embedded in musical history. Somewhat similar to the mid-90's Berlin sound, but with warmer sensibilites... seeming to pull more elements from Chicago's house and Detroit's techno heritages, while avoiding Berlin's more metallic edge.

Stephen Hitchell (cv313, Echospace, Empathy Boxx, Soundshift, Vivace)

Producer and engineer of minimized to maximized sounds, determined to open a new chapter in experimenation with synthesis and sound design. Vintage, warm, ethereal analog sound, produced and recorded onto reel to reel tape.

Rod Modell, Stephen Hitchell (cv313, Echospace, Soultek)

Deep dubbed out Minimal project of DeepChord's Rod Modell and Souldubsounds owner Steven Hitchell A.K.A. Soultek. Produced using nothing but vintage analog equipment, Roland Space Echo, Echoplex, Korg tape delay, vintage signal processors, noise generators, Sequential Circuits 8 -Bit samplers and numerous analog synthesizers.
All sounds, static, tones and field recordings, including paranormal activity captured and recorded in Chicago and Detroit

About Release:

Mindgames, the team behind Japan's Labyrinth festival, have curated a charity compilation called Composure: Ambient Techno for Japan. The album features two discs of "experimental techno" and "deep ambient" by many of the mountainside festival's past performers, such as Donato Dozzy, Peter Van Hoesen, Donnacha Costello and DeepChord (who appear separately as Rod Modell and CV313). All of the tracks are previously unreleased, and aside from two edits by Sandwell District's Function and Mike Parker, have been commissioned specifically for this album. Proceeds will go to Smiles & Dreams: The Tohoku Kids Project, a program aimed at giving both immediate and long term support to children who lost their parents in the earthquake. "We know that our contribution will be a modest one," say the curators, "but we also feel it is important to express our concern for everyone affected, and music is the avenue of expression that we as a group have chosen."

About Label:

Music 4 Your Legs is a parent label of DIW Products Group and Mindgames, Disk Union, the Tokyo record shop.
