I greatly appreciate the heart of those behind these chairs. The need for wheelchairs is great worldwide, and they have sought to find the cheapest means possible to address that need. However, I work with the disabled in Guatemala and have seen the bedsores they can cause. They are fine for a person who spends limited time in a chair, but not for a person who relies constantly on a wheelchair. Bedsores are very difficult and expensive to heal and are often deadly. There are better alternatives.

O.K., you're right, I guess.I confess, I've never been in a wheelchair for more than a minute. I just assumed that it was better than nothing for someone that has to drag themselves through the mud like I saw on Free Wheelchair Mission's website...

To answer your question about ENTITLED- YES. If you are going to give people the gift of mobility it should be done responsibly. I have been on many wheelchair distribution in developing countries and witnessed exacly what theauctionhouse mentioned. People need to become aware of the facts and educate themselves on this poor allocation of resources.

This is the first time I have ever posted on YouTube but felt compelled. It is about time someone took it upon themselves to educate the world on the real dangers this chair poses. As a wheelchair user i am certain no donors of this chair understand what a pressure sore can do to a person. Christopher Reeve (Superman) died as a result of complications from a pressure sore even with all his financial resources. The people who did this video are trying to educate people on this. Good job!!

I've donated to this charity.Lots have. No, the wheelchairs ARE NOT as nice as the others. This video ticked me off...the guy takes a FREEBIE, which he could probably never afford to pay for, then some guy comes along and finds faults with the chair. Now the recipient is a victim of that thoughtless charity...which sooo cruely provided a chair without padding. WHY NOT GIVE THE CHAIR BACK, THEN? Is this guy that happily took the freebie ENTITLED to a better chair?
the critic is nicely dressed, appears to be well fed and well-educated. Free Wheelchair Mission has helped over 200,000 people, many who would never see the light of day again in their lifetimes, to get off the ground and to move out among the "living". it is a lawn chair on wheels!!! when he can replace these chairs with a custom-fitted chiar like his he should do it. in the meantime, have a heart for those less fortunate, those crawling amongst snakes and rats, for pete's sake.

I have been in touch with the founder of the FWM
When he first approached me over 6 years ago to offer his lawn chairs I politely reclined his offer. I commended him for his desire to help those with disabilities. I told him the dangers of his design and that with his ability to source parts he should come up with an appropriate design.
He is stuck on what he thinks is the cheapest wheelchair available. He is using the worst wheelchair factory in China.
