Reached 60K at last! Feel pleased with that but today's a bit of a cranky day for me, mood-wise. I don't know, I sound relatively cheerful in my video but who knows? Anyway! In a bit of a rush, on my way out after dinner, so here we go!

Excerpt:

----

Sharp, young screams from the right turned him away from his path, and he looked over the clash of a vampire and a wolf to see one of the coven, one of the presumed twins. Before him and the blade he wielded in his pale hands were two children, two of the pack's young. Anger flashed through Cole and he turned at once, barrelling across the huge lawn that swept out before the manor towards that male vampire and his intended targets. The children saw him coming, a blonde boy and a redheaded little girl. Cole knew them, had played with them and let them into his room during storms when they were scared and could not find their parents. He avoided the chore of caring for others' young when he could, inwardly afraid he would do something wrong and inadvertently hurt the child in some way, but here and now there were no reservations. This was pack, and defending the young in a pack was the job of every single wolf under the Alphas.

Only when he was practically on top of the vampire did Cole let loose with a roar of intent. The undead male turned his head back, eyes so wide that they seemed to take up half his face. Before he could utter a yelp or swing his blade around in an attack to fend off the ambush, Cole struck him, knocking him clean over the children huddled on the floor and to the ground on the other side. The light was fading, carrying late dusk into night. Cole's vision was not hindered by the hour, and he stepped smoothly over the boy and girl, sensing their relief as it edged their fear and began to temper it. From there he rose onto his hind legs as the vampire began to pick himself up. His enemy stumbled, startled by the size of his opponent, and had he been capable in that moment, Cole might have grinned down at him. He settled for bearing twin rows of razor fangs before reaching out with one large paw that was practically a hand, aiming to grasp the vampire. It made its biggest mistake then.

Turning with a shallow cry of fear, it began to run.

Quite a meaty chunk for you there, but I did like that part. Ummm, I don't have a lot else to say, except tomorrow is the last day of NaNoWriMo 2009! :O It snuck up on us, huh? Let's go! HEARTS!
