Edit: Thankyou for all your kind words, I was excited to be featured! All the hard work paid off, though next time I think I'll just go on a beach holiday with my favourite sock. :P

I really enjoyed the history of Aperture Science in Portal 2 and wanted to populate some of the deserted areas; it ended up turning into the story of Caroline over the decades, the 50's secretaries, 70's homeless, 80's robots... The stills at the end represent the first things she sees as GLaDOS... quite a lonely existence, really.

I filmed in-game via the console and added my own animations over the top.

  • First off, excellent video rendition of Caroline's story. It has a tragic and poignant sense to it that comes off excellently.

Quick question, around 2:32 with the robots in the presentation room, the man talking to them is Cave right? If so, then why is Caroline standing in front of the Cave's portrait around 1:48? Just remembering the better days of Aperature? When I saw this for the first time, I thought this was supposed to be after Cave died, which I suppose doesn't follow the story.

  • @moviemaker1986 Thankyou!

I didn't mean for it to have a funereal feel; I imagined more that perhaps Cave gave her the flowers and she was thinking about how things had changed. Maybe hers is a tale of unrequited affection, or maybe Cave is so wrapped up in his dreams he rarely remembers how he relies on Caroline (a token of flowers every so often failing to put a value on it...)

So yes, i'ts meant to be an ageing Cave at 2.32; perhaps I should have had a pic of him offering her the flowers. :)

  • at 2:59, i don't remember anywhere that it ever said 1992 in there

  • @MacWii It never did... I added it in to be consistent with the other dates in the vid.

  • Those robotmen, where do they come from?

  • @megacaviagek They're based on concept art by Valve... if you play that level and look at the posters there are implications the human staff are being replaced by robots. I think Cave says something to that effect too.

  • Amazing <3

  • the best

  • This is a very good video with all the contrast and meanings, the getting more and more deserted feel was great and can really leave one just thinking. Great job!

  • 1:01 lawl.. the mantis men XD

  • This is so BRILLIANT!!!

  • The beauty and glory of Aperture in its beginnings starkly contrasted with how...dead Aperture became as Cave died slowly and painfully, with Caroline lamenting and one of the most beautiful video game soundtracks, Exile Vilify, in the background, ending with Caroline standing in front of essentially herself, in solidarity. Beautiful, just beautiful.

  • i laughed at the mantis men.

  • fantastic video, a tear on my cheek

  • Sniff, beautiful.

  • @uknowidontno044 it just make me cry... T_T
