With its 589 km special, stage eight proved to be the longest special yet in the 2007 Dakar Rally. It was the first special where the competitors faced the serious sand dunes of Mauritania and a day where Robby Gordon and his Monster Hummer felt at home. Gordon, a frequent visitor to the Glamis sand dunes in Southern California had high expectations for the day.

Gordon and navigator Andy Grider began the special in the 13th slot and at days end they managed to move up five positions for an eight place finish for the special. The Hummers time of 8:46:36 put the team 1:14:44 adrift of stage winner Gniel De Villiers of South Africa. The result vaulted the team up into the top ten in the overall classification. The first American team and car manufacture to win a stage in the Dakar Rally now finds themselves back 06:23:17 from the overall lead.

  • Is Robby in this years race (2008)? I will be 5 hours north of Tichit out in the desert for 2 months (Dec Jan). Found a 1996 rally car burried in the sand when I was there in Sept.

  • THANKS GUYS

  • Keep it up Robby! You're doing awesome!

  • Team USA IS BPH. Gota have that set your ass in the seat, rattel your teeth Detroit big block V8 HorsePOWER! The road to victory will be paved with German junk. Win it or wad-it what a great show so far. ROCK ON ROBBY

  • Da MAN IN BLACK MONSTER RULZ!!! Nice one buddy. A man has got to know his limitations...way to play it smart. The wife says more race footage please! She volunteers for next year's team, too. Or, she'll buy the first DVD.

  • Rock on Robby. Top five baby, top five

  • Thanks for the updates Robby. What an adventure, have a strong week and bring it on home to Dakar!

  • I think this why a lot of the teams are running TDI engines, far less weight to carry in fuel, not quite as much BHP though. Good luck Robby, I hope to see team USA in the top 8.

  • Due that I don't have a TV and thanks to you, I can follow the legendary Dakar Rally 2007! Keep going keep going!! go go go!

  • We all need to rate these videos so the world gets exposed to Robby Gordon.
