Budgie owners of flighted and clipped parakeets, please visit parrot forum: http://theparrotforum.com/

You can see Duke the budgerigar wave, turn around, fetch and fly to me on cue. I'm just filling in for Kat while she's away to keep him in shape and trained.

Here is an article I wrote about the basic elements of flight training:

  • and who said budgies could not learn tricks!. budgies are more capable thanh poeple give them credit for, just takes a little extra time with budgies to tame them....

  • @TheLorikeetLover Actually in some ways, you can argue budgies are even smarter. From my observations, using the same training techniques, the budgie learns tricks in a shorter timespan but requires more repetition. Let's say it takes the budgie 100 tries to learn a certain trick. Well it can practice it 50 times a day and learn it in 2 days. The Senegal Parrot on the other hand might only take 60 tries to learn it but at 20 per day, takes 3 days. Who's smarter? Hard to compare intelligence.

  • @kiliparrot yea iu was talking about taming them not training them :)

  • @TheLorikeetLover You said tricks. Tricks are trained.

  • @kiliparrot what treat do you use?

  • @BmX3r786 That is millet spray but it mostly depends on what kind of parrot it is and what it likes.

  • can i ask, how did u teach him to wave and go bck 2 perch?

  • what is with the stupid voice

  • @egydodo1 A clicker lets the bird know it's getting a treat.

  • what is training diet and what does a clicker do??!!!!

  • @susanrc73 I think it's millet, it's a good treat for smaller birds such as budgies and cockatiels. You can find it in most pet stores.

  • uau! muito bom! Eu não sabia que essa espécie de periquito é tão esperta...

oaw! I didn't know that this parakeet is intelligent like this! VEry good! congratulation!
