Marty's hit from 1954 is brightened up by his great charisma and some fine pickin' by Jack Pruett and Bill Johnson. Bill, by the way wrote that wonderful country ballad 'A Wound Time Can't Erase.'

  • He DID record this- it's on the Bear Family box. Does anyone know who the rhythm and lead guitar players are? The rhythm player is also a fine harmony singer.

  • @signjay

He never recorded 'A Wound Time Can't Erase' is what I said.

  • Hi there Tarquin! As always great song of this great man.Thank you for putting so much energy in the memory of Marty. And I know that I'm not the only one who thinks so,in the name of all the Marty Robbins fans thank you from the bottom of our hearts.Have a nice weekend and a healthy and joyful life.

  • @jhtenvelde

Thanks for your kind comments jhtenvelde and good luck against Spain in the World Cup Final!

  • It still puzzles me jed that Marty never recorded this song. A great recording by Stonewall Jackson anyhow and I also have great versions by Jack Greene, Don Gibson and Conway Twitty. I'd love to ask Bill himself why Marty never cut his classic song.

  • I think that little harmonic at the end of the break was a kind of friendly 'Up yours!' from Bill Johnson. :-)

  • My mistake. He certainly would have done a great job on that one.

  • thanks agin tarquin. no matter how many times i hear his songs i never get tired of them

  • i especially luv this one and roly poly. u are to be commended for putting these up. thank u!

  • Thanks for posting this great song. Personally, I love most of the old Marty Robbins 'Gunfighter' stuff - but tracks like this and 'The Shoe goes on the other foot tonight' are simply fantastic. I have to say - as a massive steel guitar fan - that Bill Johnson's playing is first class and, judging by his grin, he's enjoying playing too! Once again, many thanks. George.
