cola nut is believed to be carcinogenic by some study :/ Many who eat it for years will suffer from gastric cancer

Africans Here in guinea west Africa chew it because of the caffeine rush somewhat like coffee. its quite bitter and can make your teeth change color . its also given to village chiefs when meeting for them for the first time as a token .

@lloydhofer originally it was used to make coca cola and other drinks but they replaced it with caffeine and flavourings

Interesting video. Found out about the kola nut on wikipedia when i was wondering what they use to flavour the soft drink; thought id see if there were any videos of it on youtube. What do you do in Africa?

Now now, no sad faces. Writing grant apps is what lets you follow your dreams. Tedious, yes, sad no. I agree, it's probably not nearly as fun as a Sunday afternoon on YT.
Funny how the sun shining on his box of nuts gives them a golden tinge. Same Kola as in Coca-Cola? If they are roasted does the bitterness go away?

It is often used ceremonially, presented to tribal chiefs or presented to guests. It is preferred among African Muslims, who are forbidden to drink alcohol. Chewing kola nut can ease hunger pangs. Frequent chewing of the kola nut can also lead to stained teeth."
I'd never heard of it before going to W. Africa!

Interesting, so I gather your experience is similar to the wiki usage. I bet $100 goes a long way around there. Don't forget your toothbrush!

was never a huge fan of it but apparently it has medicinal properties too! Not so big on red teeth though...
uploading videos is much more than fun writing grants! got 3 due next week :( :(
