    Yes the talk, for the most part was brilliant, I agree. The only thing that bothered me about it was the enactment of how 9,10 year olds would interpret the music. There are kids that young that can play the piece very well, thank you very much! I guess Zander figured that if he threw in a bunch of rubati and played the piece much faster than usual, that he would arrive at a superior performance. Rubato is great, but only if used judiciously. In the end, you have to trust Chopin!

    Exactly what I thought! The talk was brilliant in my opinion, but the performance could have been so much better.

    Zander raised our expectations by talking about the significance of the Chopin and then he failed to play it with passion. .The talk was interesting. However if your basing everything on the power and the beauty of music you must produce a compelling performance otherwise you undercut your own message. Some have said the music wasn't "the point". Music is always the point,. Zander would have been better off having a good guest artist play the Chopin in a way that would have moved the audience.
