I might have already commented on this tune, but I have to say that piece lifts my soul when I feel blue. I came across this on some random album I bought when I thought I should get into jazz and thought maybe it has What a Wonderful World on it (yep didn't look at the back of the case). It didn't and in fact was a collection of his 30s and 40s work. I loved it after giving it a week. Then lost it when I sold my car....it was in the glove box. Enjoy it new owner...enjoy ;(
Appears to be Db. (Trumpet Eb) . The "written" key for Stardust is C (Trumpet D) but possibly it was recorded in C and speeded up at some stage (in the pre-digital age days when the key and the tempo were tied). But Db is a very popular key amongst American musos - Ruby Braff played Cornet Chop Suey in Db although it's normally Eb. Armstrong was too good a muso to be fazed by unusual keys. So unless he has made a film version showing the fingering, there's no way of knowing. Jon Stone(Trumpet)
I think you'll find it's Db = trumpet in Eb. C is "written" key. Maybe it was recorded in C and speeded up (pre-digitally) thus raising the pitch 1/2 tone. But Louis was a master. Could be either.
My dad had a couple of 78rpm records and "Stardust" was one of them, so this was the type of music I grew up on. I was lucky enough to get to see Louis Armstrong and his group in Dallas back around 1963. It made me feel like he had come to my house and started a jam session. He was so much fun to watch as well as to listen to. Always that great big smile! They called him "Satchmo" which was short for "Satchel Mouth."

He gets better as the years go by.
