There is a difference between written language, and spoken language. I am Italian and can read French, Spanish, and Portuguese and get virtually 100% of what is written, as long as it is standard grammar. But when it comes to phonetics it's a different story. For Italian speakers it's somewhat easier to understand spoken Spanish, followed by Brazilian Portuguese, French, and Portugal's Portuguese. But in terms of lexicon and construction of the sentence, French is closer.

Wow, that is by far the most bigoted statement I have read on Youtube. I honestly doubt you can understand 100% of the other languages. Maybe 20, if you're lucky; 30 if you're well educated.

Simply because they derive from the same parental language, does not mean one is unanimous with the others. While you can understand bits and pieces, you cannot understand it all - whether spoken or written. You must also know that written language is never the basis in linguistic study and analysis.

I agree, when I was first learning italian I would mix spanish in a lot. You tend to mix those languages because they have similar sounds, and words.

you are absolutley right.....actually it influenced a lot of things.....specially in the south part which I am from, there is a lot of arab arquitecture and many many words. However, the culture that people have has nothing to do with arab, it completely died among the people.
