My first online project done in 2009.
Whole-saling markets around Guangzhou's old train station are populated with buyers from across the world. The Africans, in particular, have become a media phenomenon.
Chris is feeling at home in the Chinese city like his fellow Nigerians. Due to visa restrictions, many of them never step out of China once they're in.
Chis told me a milkshake a day kept him strong, the weather was way too hot in Guangzhou, he had a business degree, and China was his back-up plan after he failed to obtain a visa to the US.
I followed him for two weeks in the invisible "chocolate city", where people communicated in a mixture of English, Mandarin and Cantonese only they would understand, and shared a business culture which is international in its own way.
(BTW, racist comments will be deleted.)
Ah Ivan, use it at your own expenses....
The periphery of TianHe, perhaps. Currently the most populated area are around old station, Xiao Bei, part of Taojin and the neighbouring towns like Foshan.
The businessmen did complain it was getting too competitive, I guess you're right, considering Africa is one of the few places where Chinese passport holders can travel relatively freely...
