Incredible hostility toward people who obviously greatly respect the man. You think maybe Elvis married Krall because he loves her and not based on whether she's authentic-jazz enough for you? You think Mingus - one of the greatest composers of the 20th c. IMHO - didn't go well beyond the jazz idiom by anyone's standards? I think that's what Declan means when he says "I don't think of it like jazz," meaning "not just jazz as we usually think of it." I love Mingus, but I loved Ray & Elvis first.
