In the event someone out there is thinking about getting this kit, I put together a slide show of the process it took to get it onto the truck.
It took 3 days at about 6 hours per day to get this thing on. The web page(s) state you can use simple tools and comes with everything you need to get the kit installed... True, but it sure helps to reinforce it with extra angle iron, and heavier duty bolts.
Please be aware that the pictured items aren't what you actually get... certain trucks contain different brackets, plus the installation manual displays items that don't come with the kit... it does not state this anywhere, so you might think parts are missing... but they are not.
Most pick up beds will have some sort of rust under them, so you don't want to just use the cradle piece that comes with the kit... you want to reinforce it with some 1/4" or 3/16 angle iron, plus it holds the bed with a wider grip.
The swivel is just a notched out section in the rear with these plates, where a bolt goes through... then it uses the stock bed bolts to hold down the bed in the rear.
The pump itself was easy to install, but I got to say the hardest part was removing the bed bolts... these have to be about 1 foot long... and they were rusted through... if it weren't for the plasma cutter, we would still be at the shop trying to remove the bolts!!!
All in all, it wasn't too hard to install, so hopefully these pictures help you on your decision.
The kit was $1100. There is another one out there for $3500 where the bed lifts at the rear as it tilts back, so it clears the bumper, so if you got the cash spend the extra money, and you don't have to ride around with no bumper for awhile, until you decide to chop it up... This kit calls for cutting of the ball mount area of the bumper, in order for it to clear when in dump mode. The only place the bumper can go with this kit is to be welded to the hinges.
Hope this video helped

  • Great video and explanation! I am thinking of doing this with my 98 Dodge Cummins and now i know what im up against. Thanks for taking the time to shoot this.

  • @roninslam - FFWD 3 years and the center of my bed looks like a camels back. if you are going to do it, reinforce the bed frame better than what we did... it still works, but let's say you want to carry something fragile flat... it won't work :). Possibly reinforce it with lenghwise bars as well as width wise.

i use it all the time, it came very handy.

  • after about 2 years of having this dump kit installed, definately if i were to do it again, i would weld together a bigger square support frame. from using it so much, the middle of the bed as a permanent bump- which is ok, but the bed rails aren't meant for something to be pushing it in all the time, so it bent.

I still like the stealth dump kit, you get to keep your bumper, the full kit frame supports the entire bed, it's just that i don't have $3500 to get it-So i'll have to live with a bump

  • @bacalhau75 I had a question about the install; did you have to offset the hydraulic cylinder to the right looking at from the rear of the truck, because of the front gas tank, also did you modify the rear muffler. I have a 95 F250 and would like to install the same unit but I have very little clearance as the gas tank is in the way..

    Great video btw

  • @Hunneman2 - yes i did. i believe the instruction state if you offset the hydraulics the 4000 lbs lifting capacity gets reduced to an estimated 3500 or so. I got my truck with broken muffler pipes so i installed a right angle and outlet in front of the rear tire, but the stock pipe is in place along with a flowmaster can.

i think one of the mounting holes is the gas tak strap... it was tight, but it fit fine. it's weird, but all the weight of the load sits on the 6 grade 10 bolts.

  • hey man we just watched your video and my friend has a Ford that he has been working on for 6 years now and is almost done he wants to know where you got the kit for the tilt bed. Great job by the way! thanks! msbstangs momma

  • @msbstangsmom - i got it from here - JohnsWholesale(dot)com

search for the name of the kit as well, there were 3 places that sold them, i think this place was $100 cheaper then other places.

keep in mind that you will want to get some more angle iron bars to re inforce the bed frame, the kit isn't sufficient in my opinion.

i use it all the time, and like it. don't care about not having a rear bumper

  • Bacalhau75- thank you for posting this video, it's guys like yourself that do these things that let me know there are good people out there. Not many take the time to try to use their experiences to help others. I really enjoyed watching this and hoped someone did this- thanks again

  • @nate379 Ican agree with u on a flat area or your frame but when u are dumping u r changeing everything like as soon as the box come's up a little all the weight is on4 points the back pivot holdingthe bed to the truck and the hoist pivot which is pushing Due the the lever action that is going on in the first 2-3" of lift4000lbs can quite quickly turn in to6or even8000 lbs of lift requred to lift the load Now i also know that trucks are bult with a 5-1 safety ratio which=10,000lbs ur pushin it

  • @GeorgeVeld Don't see why it wouldn't hold it. Have hauled close to 6000lbs in the bed of my 2500 Dodge and 8000lbs in the bed of my 3500.... Both are still running just fine and no damage to anything.
