I just heard this for the very first time a few minutes ago on KFXM, a great, great oldies station on the Internet. They play a lot of great stuff I've never heard before.
I was just about to enter my teen years when this came out--how did I miss it then?
What a fabulous tune! Thanks for posting this, SunshinePopRevival!
I heard it 40 miles further south in DC. I even heard a follow-up, maybe a total of one time, with a title something like, "Hanging out a Sign for Love".
Sad that it never got enough play to become of the favorite "oldies." I heard this song several times when commuting and working the SF bay area in 1969.
Went searching for it in a used record store a decade or so ago....and found it!! Like others have said, I'm now a happy man, too.
As far as I know, only this song is available on cd, a collection of lost singles. Their album is missing in action as a cd, but the rest of the songs on that album were never as good as this song. Lots of covers and MOR syrupy tunes.
John and Anne are/were both from England. Both the album and the 45 can be found on eBay. That's where I got mine. Until I found it on eBay, I had heard the song fewer than 10 times in my life, but it was always my favorite all-time song. Like the other guy said, I almost wondered if I made up the tune in my head or something. Great song!
Wow! I ALSO just heard it on KFXM.com. Truely an oldies paradise! What a GREAT radio station!

@rslitman: "A Sign For Love" made the Billboard easy listening top 40 in early 1970.
