OASIS is a flexible software architecture that enables us to prototype applications that use depth cameras and underlying computer vision algorithms to recognize and track objects and gestures, combined with interactive projection. Here we show OASIS in a kitchen scenario.

  • Great work. In my opinion the key to something like this becoming really popular and useful is it's openness and ability to switch apps to allow the same system to be flexible enough to work in an office environment, kids room, college dorm, bars, retail stores, etc....and obviously making it cheap enough and easy enough for developers to create and distribute their apps. How long have you guys been working on this project?

  • great for supermarkets for identifying products when people have to pay. the technique can support the workers in the supermarket or warehouse for displaying prices, additional info, promotions, if clients participate in loyalty programms etc.

  • @kanorbhai Well, this thing would tell you how long the icecream has been left on there and tell you if it's in danger of melting. It's not crucial, but it's help. And I think registering stuff will probably suggest recipes with ingredients it knows you have, so you don't have to waste time looking them up and checking if you do have everything you need. Maybe you can get recipes you didn't even know existed in the first place.

  • Cool, yes; practical, no.

  • I often have difficulty opening the fridge and seeing how many oranges I have, or opening my tub of ice cream and seeing it all melted.

  • the only problems i would see is does this work on any surface and when you move a cutting board in view and you start chopping on it to follow a recipe what would happen?

anyways where can i get this

  • This is a much better idea than for LEGO, I like this. It could be useful!

  • I would rather have this than a Kinect. Just sayin'

  • @ohquenon Creating objects is described at 2:45

  • BUT WHAT IF I HAVE NO TOMATO LEFT?111!!???
