1906 Simplex 20 H.P. running at Zolfo Springs 2008 show. This engine is hit and miss and is running off propane. The engines when out in the oilfields ran off natural gas from the oil wells. This is the 2nd Simplex movie I have posted. These are the hardest hitting engines I have seen.

  • It is a hit and miss engine... It only fires when it needs too.

  • Needs to be oiled. If it sounds like a saw it's being run dry.

  • @TestECull What you hear is the engine breathing thru the exhaust pipe between power strokes..

  • @pileofiron The oiler must have had brand new oil in it then, because I can't see any oil in it.

  • @TestECull It doesn't need that much oil because there is no working load... If you notice it only fires about every 21 to 22 revs. There is just a little oil in all the oilers...

  • its the got hicups

  • sounds like Darth Vader hyperventilating

  • @mciceteade Yeah I looked it up a few months back and read up about them, Thanks anyways tho

  • @gigobait

hit and miss engines are RPM fired ignitions, this engine is running under no load. this means the rpm drops below the minimum RPM limit and the engine fires, after that it runs faster than the fire limit RPM and it will not fire again now the engine slows back down, until it is back below the minimum RPM limit, then it will fire again.

a verry nice prinziple under load it would sound different it would still "hit and miss" but not have such long time intervalls between fireings.

  • god dang it i promised i wouldn't do this i thought of some inappropriate jokes about hit and miss engines ohh me

  • beautiful, i know how much time and fine adjustment it takes to get one to run that well, nice job. man she hits strong, new rings?, valves and seats?

  • why is it not constantly running and exploding????
