IV (intrtavenous) catheter insertion demonstration (over the needle cannula). Video technique comment: do not use the C-hold technique shown. Correct hold to stabilize a vein avoids placing fingers above (proximal to) the IV insert site. See our IV Insertion demo 1 for the correct hold technique (Don't send any comments re: the hold shown in video to stabilize a vein- we are aware; video otherwise presents good tips) Demonstration video 2 of 2 videos. Demo 1; previously too long for YouTube posted January 2012 to YouTube.

its kinda dark... i couldn't see the vein... but very insightful for me coz i wanted to know how they do it in a developed country where you have easier access to alot of materials that makes iv insertion much, much easier and more ideal... tagaderm and chloraprep are among others that cost too much for most people where i come from..

Adequate video for basic non-complicated IV starts. I would have benefitted more if you discussed difficult insertions—obese, dehydrated, renal patients, or people with tortuous veins, etc. Thanks for what you did do.

@buckrogerstoo Yes, the video is designed to be a basic how to insert an IV catheter. Luckily, this one is short enough to fit Youtube's time requirements. Part 1 - another demo, is too long for YouTube. We go into more depth in classes on difficult sticks, plus actual subjects would have to be wide and varied to show it all. I do have a post on our blog: How to Start IVs: 8 Tips to Improve Your Success.
