I have been living in a motorvehicle on the streets for 9 years now and fancy pictures with fancy music do nothing to help....you need real video footage with real homeless people. without all the musical mood elevators..makes it seem fake and manipulative.Keep it real and keep it coming doco style. I'm 47 and can't get a job and can't afford rent.Get no assistance because i'm not addicted to anything and have no kids...

@buster09smith There are not nearly enough organizations to help the amount of homeless. Perhaps if you watch the video. It states 43% of homeless have substance/alcohol problems (some result from becoming homeless no doubt). That means 57% of homeless are due to misfortune such as economy, not being substance abusers.

@FABproductions2010MC What i'm trying to say is that the majority of people who start out homeless are not initially mentally ill or substance using. It's homelessness and the vicious cycle of abuse that does this to you. But having said this for many this is still the case, and it's all interconnected anyway.

@FABproductions2010MC I grew up as a street kid and have been homeless for most of my life. A lot of recent research, particularly of which has been done at RMIT University shows that this is a common misconception. Abuse and family breakdown is the largest cause of youth homelessness, and substance abuse and mental health problems manifest as a result of and whilst being homeless. These are secondary problems caused by homelessness itself and often and sadly further abuse.

Our capitalist way of life demands that a certain percentage of people must live this way. Have a think about that. Tribal people have a shelter and bed for everyone. Can't be that hard can it?

those "charities" just shunt you from one group to the next - they use donations and govt money to provide jobs within their organisations and have cocktail parties to hand out plaques to the elite members of society who toss a few coins their way ... while those in real need are left to suffer on the streets - what hypocrisy

@TheAtraxRobustus i lost my job about six months ago - i'm educated with a degree and lots of experience in my area of expertise. I am now homeless and not one of these do-gooder groups helped - while i am sure they help some people - if you dont fit the homeless stereotypical type - then you are on your own. i was told to go back where i came from by these do gooder groups. huh

There are so many organisations out there who do a great job at trying to address the issues surrounding homelessness. Icongratulate them ontheir hard work, I just wory sometimes that the generalisation some stats can make. Do these stats show that the alcohol and substance abuse & mental issues were the cause of homelesslessness or caused by being homeless.

@buster09smith Well my friends and I who gathered these statistics used sources such as newspapers and websites and we found that it was a combination of both. In some cases it continued even after being homeless. As part of the guidelines of our assignment we were not allowed to confront any homeless people despite our efforts so it was hard to get personalized facts. I understand your point though.
