A small but strong magnet has been placed on top of a YBCO disk, Cooling the YBCO ceramic disk with liquid nitrogen causes it to become a superconductor. The levitation effect we see, however, is a result of the magnetic field being expelled from the disk as it becomes a perfect diamagnet.
