@Brock2097 you're welcome :) In fact the pilot is basically the "first part" of the movie, only with the cuts the director was forced to do, and yet it was brilliant, surreal and "weird" sometimes but compelling and fascinating, I wonder how they could turn it down after calling someone like Mr. Lynch ... shame on them ;-)
Yeah, there were rumors about connections between Lost Highway and TP as well. It's cool to see all these motifs showing up in different ways throughout his work. Even Inland Empire has a lot in common with MD theme-wise. Thanks for the pilot scenes by the way, it saves me the work of trying to hunt it down!
@6980MulhollandDrive MD being set in the "land of palms"( = PALMER), Diane being blonde-haired and blue-eyed like Laura (and possibly abused by family members like her)... so in fact MD could be definitely considered a "spin-off", a modern Twin Peaks set in L.A. ;-)
@Brock2097 In fact I read some very interesting interpretations showing many elements TP and MD had (or could have) in common, i.e. the blue colour referring to drugs or "bad news" (the blue key / box, the blue rose...), the similarities between the Black Lodge (possibly a sort of "waiting room") and Club Silencio (hell / purgatory?), supernatural beings (Bob, the bum), Diane living at n. 17 (the age when Laura Palmer died), Betty living at 1612 (12-16 is when Laura was abused)

@Brock2097 It would be kinda nice :) Apparently the DVD special editions of TP and MD were released at the same time so they did this for promotion

Why were they coupled together like this? Oh, it was a New Line promo or something right? Makes you think about MD's origins as a TP spinoff.
