I began watching this show when Beverlee McKinsey came on the scene just because she was my all-time favorite daytime actress. I was in college in the mid-to-late 80s and would rush home every day at 2:00 to see what Alex was up to. The Alex/Roger relationship was the most compelling in daytime at the time. If I recall correctly, didn't he kidnap her and then they became a couple? Roger was one piece of work! Oh, it was soooo good. Brings back some fond memories.

When the following day's episode aired and Bev's picture was abruptly removed from the opening credits, that's when I knew this was no vacation. They don't do that -or do it that quickly- if the actor is only on vacation. I'd already quit Young & Restless the previous April, and with this devastating realization, quit both Light & World Turns and never went back. Without the hope of "McKinsey days" anymore, daytime soaps -CBS, or any others- just weren't worth it.

Do we get to see Nick's devastation when his mother was presumed dead.

Beverly was a wonderful actress that made Alexandra, an infamous character in daytime history..

Bev was wonderful. I wish I could have met her! She was absolutely fabulous! Never saw such a great actress again.

The final part of Beverlee's quitting the show. She knew her contract inside and out and with a little math, knew this episode not only was her last before a contractual six week vacation, but also precisely when her contract expired including her right to quit at that moment clause. The producer AND Procter and Gamble apparently were not nearly as thorough as our Beverlee. And so, kiss my..to both of them. She was someting both on and off screen.

Beverlee's departure from the show in itself is worthy of compelling daytime drama. She hated what producer Jill Farren Phelps was doing to the show and as important, to the characters. Apparently, McKinsey was so disciplined as an actress, despite the quality of the script, she memorized everyting. Harding Lemay, said she even memorized the punctuation she was so thorough. Anyway, nothiing escaped McKinsey's attention including her contract and its specifics. More to come...

Beverlee was a master. I don't know what else to say.

Wow, when Alex finally realizes that Nick was right in pointing out the similarities in their situation and her and Brandon's.
....so sad. And that was the last image of her wasn't it - looking through the glass? I remember thinking how intense this was (the whole last week she was on) and being mad that she was going to be gone for several months. I can't imagine what I would have been thinking if I had known it was forever. And I didn't tape the epidodes that week like I normally did.
This is the first time I have seen this in 18 years (tomorrow is August 17th). Thank you.
