@unterland It's a shame so many Americans are anti-British English simply because they had qualms with the British government of the late 1700s. I'm not a fan of monarchy either but that doesn't stop me being British. Still, it was 250 years ago and most of us have moved on (except Mel Gibson of course hehe)
@xxCCBBxx I don't think it's really a British accent; just an East Coast accent with strong British influence. Washington might have spoken much like this, though I prefer to think of him speaking with a slight Virginia drawl.
