There are only about 650 Stradivarius instruments left worldwide and this is believed to be the only one in Australia. Estimated at about $2 million, the violin was made by Antonio Stradivari in 1728.
Along with a Cello worth $1 million a Del Gesu lent to Richard Tognetti by an anonymous benefactor valued at $10.5 millon, the Stradivarius is the first purchase by the ACO Instrument Fund.
Rebecca Nash talks to Richard Tognetti and Satu Vanska for Inside Business ABC TV.
