Todays Background Game the spiffing City of Heroes Freedom.

Todays Episode is all about Beta Testing, what to do, what to expect how Beta Testing has changed and how we as gamers can help return it back to being a force for improvement in the video gaming world, rather than the marketing and PR tool that it has become.

  • Yawn, .......

  • Good work once again mate, good to see you're back to posting videos again. Was wondering where you went.

I do agree you with this as my experience in the World of Warcraft mirrors what you said. When i played there was bug reporting tools but to me they didn't really seem to be there. When i was playing it more of a early access to the game more then a testing parse but this could be due to the fact that i joined the beta later then most people.

  • Welcome back man, good to see your vids in my sub box again!

  • Ah good, you're back. And my tips have shone through, excellent. Contact TotalHalibut and ask if TB will feature you in a mailbox. The debate would be wonderful.

  • Many Betas get used as an incentive to pre-order, with 100% guaranteed access being too tempting a hook for many potential buyers. Once the beta is running, they cant resist the urge to pre-order. Rift was the same, and it happened to me, which is hilarious as the same beta I took part in was used to load the servers as they had offered each news subscriber 20 beta keys each. In short, many games, not just MMOs are offering incentives to pre-order, due to gamers being more cautious.

  • i totally agree with you dat beta should be primarily used for fixing as much of the game as possible n secondary to promote the game. When i originally started playing betas i just used to do it for the rewards that were given out but now a days i just try to crash the game, or get stuck basically just mess about in the game to find any fault.

PS i never saw any ads. not a single one

  • I was in the Heroes 6 beta. I had a problem with the network so I couldn't play with my friend. We brought it up at the forums and were meet with "What do you expect it is only a beta" by the mods there and that I should stop complaining.

Thats right. I got berated for reporting a problem in a beta...

Whats the point betas if cant report problem?
